Training/Practice

Book Now!

Day 1 is a training day. We expect that anyone booking onto a Canoeing expedition has at least a small amount of experience before hand. The purpose of this training day is simply to assess your core paddling skills and for one of our team to go through basic safety and rescue techniques. If you have never even sat in a Canoe before, we do suggest you get in touch to arrange a training day, this is usually the day before. After a day of paddling training, we will arrive at your campsite. We will spend a few minutes just discussing campsite choice for the next few days and make sure you all know how to set up your tents. In the evening we will discuss a few bits about first aid and emergency action plans ETC.

Day 2, 3 and 4 is your official Practice Expedition. On completion of the practice Expedition, your Instructor Team will give you and your team a full debrief, ensuring any questions or worries are sorted and you are fully prepared to take on the challenge of your Qualifying Expedition.

Qualifying

This Expedition will be 100% self-sufficient. You will have pre-arranged checkpoints with your supervisors each day, apart from those checkpoints, you and your team will operate be completely independently.

On completion of the qualifying expedition, your team will deliver your expedition aim presentation to your Assessor who will then sit down with you and your team and run through a full debrief. After your expedition, your Assessor will upload a full Assessors report, direct to your eDofE account.

Book Now!

Book both your Practice and Qualifying Expeditions at the same time, for selected dates and receive a special discounted package price!

By booking package dates, we can usually ensure that you complete both your qualifying and practice expeditions with the same group members, which is far from guaranteed with most open expeditions. One of the problems with the DofE Award is the drop out rate, ie. the number of participants that fail to complete an award level. One of the biggest contributing factors to student drop out is the loss of motivation between the two expeditions. By booking the two together you give yourself a target to aim for, making sure you go through with the award. We also try to book package dates so that the two expeditions are as close together as possible, also ensuring minimal skill drop between expeditions!

Yes! If you have a group of 4+ ready to book we might be able to arrange a date to suit you! Get in touch to discuss!

What if you cancel?

We try our best not to cancel any sessions but sometimes the grate British weather has other ideas! If we are forced to cancel due to unsafe conditions, we will contact you as soon as possible by phone, as well as a confirmation email, to let you know the session is not going ahead. We will try and rebook you in as soon as is convenient for you.

What if I cancel?

Less then 7 days after booking:

We offer a 7 day cooling off period. If you decide to cancel within days of booking we will offer a full refund. (This is only if none of the following conditions apply)

Over 30 days before Expedition:

If you cancel your expedition more then 30 days before the expedition start date, we will do our best to either move your booking, or offer a refund. However, we may only be able to offer a refund of 50%.

Under 30 days until Expedition:

Any cancelations made less than 30 days before your Expedition start date are not eligible for a refund. This is because we would already have staff and campsites in place that will not be refundable. Cancelation this late could also mean the expedition needs to be cancelled, meaning we may have to compensate other participants. That being said, if it is possible, we will offer to move your booking.
